The City of Newcastle annual Citizen of the Year Awards are our opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Novocastrians.

Citizen of the Year Award recipients 1999 to present

Each year we announce the Newcastle Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, and Community Group of the Year. Here are some of the people, groups and events that have been recognised in recent years.

Freeman of the City Recipients

The honour of Freeman of the City is awarded to individuals who have provided the highest level of service to Newcastle.

Citizenship Ceremonies

Before you can become an Australian citizen you need to first contact the federal Department of Immigration and Border Protection to find out if you meet the criteria.

The City of Newcastle Ambassador Program

On 27 July 2017, a Lord Mayoral Minute was presented to The City of Newcastle Councillors regarding the establishment of a Newcastle Ambassador Program.

City of Newcastle acknowledges that we operate on the grounds of the traditional country of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples.
We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs and continuing relationship with the land, and that they are the proud survivors of more than two hundred years of dispossession.
CN reiterates its commitment to address disadvantages and attain justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this community.
