Diversity & Inclusion

City of Newcastle understands the value of diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and expects its employees to treat each other and members of the community with dignity and respect. We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace culture where everyone feels respected, valued and safe to contribute their opinions and talents to the success of the organisation so that we can drive positive community outcomes.

We value diverse working styles, experiences, and perspectives. People from diverse backgrounds (including but not limited to, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, people with diverse gender identities and sexualities, people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, people with disability, and veterans) are strongly encouraged to apply!

If you need any adjustments to be made to the recruitment process or if you would like to discuss any accessibility requirements, please contact recruit@ncc.nsw.gov.au for a confidential discussion.

We understand that people need to find the right balance between their personal and professional life. Talk to us about flexible working arrangements, incl. hybrid working models, to suit your individual needs.

Diversity & Inclusion Strategy

We are currently developing our first Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Strategy. The D&I Strategy will outline the steps we are going to take over the next four years to embed inclusion into our workplace culture. We want Council to be a great place to work for everyone and an employer of choice, as well as being representative of the rich and diverse needs of the Newcastle community.

Disability Inclusion Action Plan

We are currently developing our new Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2021-2025, which will help to guide and coordinate our efforts towards creating a more inclusive and equitable community, in line with our Newcastle 2030 Community Strategic Plan.

Policies and Legislation

Council is committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) principles in the workplace, as outlined in the Local Government Act 1993 (section 344).

Council acts in accordance with the following legislative requirements:
