Community gardens are places where people come together to grow food, foster good health and green urban environments, support life long learning and cultivate vibrant communities. Find your nearest garden and get your hands dirty!

Connelly Park, Carrington

Our garden is a shared garden open to the whole community, with an organic focus. We hold monthly working bees where we maintain our garden and feast at the completion of a hard day's work. We welcome anyone and everyone to come and be a part of the garden regardless of your gardening ability.

Fowler Street, Hamilton South

The Hamilton South Community Gardens, or the 'Chilli Gardens' as they are also known, are located behind the community hall in Fowler Street. Members gather on Wednesdays between 7.30 – 9.30am however the gardens are open to all and new gardeners are encouraged to join. Food from the plots is shared within the group and with anyone in need.

Fullerton Street, Stockton

Stockton Community Garden is located in Fullerton Street, Stockton and has 10 garden beds.

The Laneway Park, Fletcher Street, Adamstown

The Laneway Park is located in Fletcher Reserve off Fletcher Street in Adamstown and is a community garden for children, made possible by community donations and a City of Newcastle Make Your Place grant.

March Street, Kotara

Originally part of the City of Newcastle's Community Greening Centre, the gardens are now cared for by community members.

Working bees are held on the last Friday of the month and new gardeners are encouraged to come along. The gardens also feature chooks, bees, worm farming, composting and propagation. Seedlings of herbs and vegetables are also available for sale, with all money raised going back into the gardens.

Mitchell Park, Merewether

Working bees are held on the third Saturday of each month from 8am to 10am. New gardeners are welcome.

Sandhills, Wharf Road, Newcastle

The Sandhills Community Garden is next to the Carriage Sheds in Foreshore Park and is open all hours. Sandhills is a beautiful garden sanctuary, supplying residents and visitors with herbs and vegetables, and no pesticides or artificial fertilisers are used.

Silsoe Street, Mayfield

The Silsoe Street Community Garden is located at 56-58 Silsoe Street, Mayfield (opposite Ackeron Street). The organic gardens provide a fantastic arena for social gatherings and is open for visits all day.

Regular working bees take place the first Saturday of every month between 2-4pm Eastern Standard Time and 3-5pm during daylight savings. New gardeners are invited to join this organic shared plot system and kids are welcome.
