Pets and Animals

Pets play a positive role in the community's wellbeing, and bring pleasure and companionship to many of our residents. Council balances the needs of pets and their owners with the needs of the wider community through our policies and services.

Our policies explain how we keep pets and people safe, and outline your responsibilities as a pet owner. Our services ensure that you can meet your responsibilities as a pet owner and that your pet remains healthy, well-socialised and safe.

Dogs

Being a responsible dog owner is easy. Learn more about the things you can do to be a responsible and loving dog owner.

Leash Free Areas

Dogs are only allowed to be off-leash in leash free designated areas approved by Council.

Cats

Responsible cat ownership means providing proper housing and food for your cat and making sure you follow responsible breeding practices.

Register, Microchip and Desex Your Pet

All cats and dogs must be lifetime registered by the time they are six months old. You may lifetime register your cat or dog at any Council in NSW or at an RSPCA centre.

Pet Ownership

We encourage all pet owners to be responsible for their pet's actions. Pets are referred to as 'companion animals'.

The Pound

Our officers will impound dogs when they are found straying. First priority is to return the dog home after contacting the owner if the dog is identified by a collar and tag and/or microchip.

Complaints About Animals

Barking dogs create more disputes between neighbours than any other issue. Learn more about addressing concerns in relation to barking dogs and other situations involving dog behaviour and safety.

Birds and Other Animals

Poultry, pigs, horses, bees and all other animals great and small. Animals must be kept in a manner that does not create a nuisance or a health risk to the surrounding community.

Wildlife and Native Animals
